        Shenzhen People’s Hospital 深圳市人民医院

Founded in 1946, Shenzhen People’s Hospital was formerly the Bao’an County Health Center. It was renamed as Bao’an County People’s Hospital after the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949. Since it was the only hospital back then with inpatient care in Shenzhen, local Cantonese residents called it “Liuyibu” (meaning “inpatient care unit” in Cantonese). To this day, this colloquial term has been the nickname of the hospital. After the establishment of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone in 1979, it was renamed as the Shenzhen People’s Hospital. In 1994, the hospital was recognized as the first Grade A tertiary hospital in Shenzhen. In 1996, it was approved by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office to be the Second Hospital Affiliated to Jinan University. In 2005, it was endorsed further as the Second Clinical Medical College of Jinan University. In 2018, with the endorsement from the municipal government, the hospital became the First Hospital Affiliated to the Southern University of Science and Technology. Shenzhen People’s Hospital is now the largest modern hospital in the city, with advanced equipment, outstanding staff, state-of-the-art scientific research, top education and medical training, and it provides people with comprehensive medical services.
